In January, Kamworks celebrated the 18th-month anniversary of its solar rural electrification program. From an experiment in the province of Kratie, it has grown into the largest private initiative promoting solar energy in Cambodia.
Kamworks now implements the program in the provinces of Kratie, Battambang, Kampong Chhnang, and Kandal. “During this initial phase, said Arjen Luxwolda, Kamworks' Managing Director, our goal was to build up our reputation in regions where we had never operated before."
“When we started in Kampong Chhnang, continued Vannak Eng, Regional Sales Manager, it was not easy. People did not know us, and there was a lot of competition. So, we spent a lot of time in the villages, organized community meetings, installed demos of our solar home systems. Now people are aware of us; and they trust us too. They even recommend our products to their friends!”
In particular, Kamworks stands out for its premium customer service. The technical team visits each customer after three, nine, and 18 months. “We have also put in place a 24/7 hotline, continued Vannak. And it's been critical in building our reputation. Our clients know they can reach us at any time, and for them, it’s reassuring.”
In the past 18 months, thus, Kamworks has further strengthened its expertise in rural electrification. “That’s why the French Development Agency asked us to take a leading role in a large rural electrification project they are funding, said Arjen Luxwolda. It will start in April and aims at funding 25,000 solar home systems in Cambodia.”
